About Leon Avanesian
I have always loved creating art. Though it wasn't until my teenage years when I was finally able to leave the fear I had about not being able to draw recognizable objects, and I just... let my hands move freely carrying my pencil across the paper. The results, though abstract, were extremely satisfying, my heart rate climbed and my eyes would widen. I would hide my art, in fear of ridicule and bullying, my art became for my eyes only. As the years and decades passed, I continued my drawings and one day I had left a napkin drawing in a work break room. As coworkers commented positively, the encouragement I received surprised me, and ultimately pushed me to take my art a bit more seriously and perhaps even let others into my envisioned universe of sketches and doodles. It pushed my art as well. I grew more comfortable in trying different things and experimented with color, something I had simply assumed I would not be able to work with well enough. I created many pieces with colored markers before I decided to share this work with everyone, to share my passion. The artistic progression continued further and further, currently into the realm of digital medium. Proving to be a very different experience from having the full control of a pen or marker in hand, this new medium presented me with it's own challenges and advantages. Embracing this change has led me to create, and continue creating, a new personal artistic universe that still elevates my heart rate... and I feel I am once again in a different universe altogether.
